Congressman Andrews Announces Opening of New $40 Million Transit Center in Pennsauken

Monday, Congressman Andrews was joined by state and local officials to announce the opening of the Pennsauken Transit Center, which received $36 million federal dollars and created over 150 construction jobs. The project's federal funding was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the 2009 stimulus law supported by Congressman Andrews in order to grow jobs and invest in our nation's infrastructure.

The Pennsauken Transit Center will make travel more convenient for passengers by directly connecting the River Line and Atlantic City Rail line, as well as access to NJ TRANSIT bus lines that serve the new facility. The new connection links the Atlantic City Rail Line's reach from 30th Street Station, in Philadelphia, to Atlantic City, and the River Line's stretch from Camden to Trenton, where riders can connect to NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor line to New York. Located on previously vacant land on Derousse Avenue in Pennsauken, the transit center includes a 200-foot platform with 60-foot canopy for the River-Line portion and two 300-foot-long and high-level platforms on both sides of the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL) tracks, which cross over the River LINE tracks. Stairs, two elevators and a 270 space parking lot were also constructed to provide customers with access.

"To the residents, this connection means increased access to education, health care and employment options," said Congressman Rob Andrews. "In these tough economic times we need less bickering and more building, projects like this transit center open up jobs and opportunities that will take us out of this tough economy and beyond."

Congressman Andrews will continue to support efforts to grow jobs and improve our infrastructure like the Pennsauken Transit Center project. The Pennsauken station is expected to increase ridership for the Atlantic City line by 20 percent by 2015.
